Local Conservationists Start Pheasants Forever Chapter in Detroit Suburb
40th Michigan PF chapter focuses on enhancing existing habitat for wildlife populations
Pontiac, Mich. - July 17th - 2006 - Conservationists from the Detroit suburbs have established the Oakland County Pheasants Forever (PF) Chapter. The chapter plans to focus on enhancing existing local wildlife habitats and youth education. Members believe there is great potential to enhance habitat by working with private land owners and individuals who have acres in government programs, such as the Conservation Reserve Program.
"I have been involved in conservation, hunting and Pheasants Forever for the majority of my life," commented Floyd Cheff, president of the Oakland County PF chapter, conservationist and local chiropractor in the Waterford community. "I saw how positive an impact Pheasants Forever was having on other counties' habitat and thought that we needed to have that commitment to conservation and wildlife in Oakland County. We are thrilled to start this new chapter and work at enhancing existing habitat here."
"Not only will the new chapter work on building habitat, they also plan to make youth education another priority for their chapter explained Mike Parker, PF's state biologist in Michigan. We can work as hard as we can to maintain conservation practices for the next generation, but in order to make it last forever we need to educate youth on the importance that conservation plays in our day-to-day lives."
The new Oakland County PF Chapter plans to hold their meetings on the fourth Thursday of the month at various Oakland County locations to be posted on line www.oaklandcountypf.com at 7 p.m.. The dates and locations are subject to change based on availability of locations, various holidays and events taking place through out the year. The website will always reflect the most recent up to date meeting times and locations. The public and media are invited to attend.
